Getting closer

Today was fun.....it is taking shape. What is not fun, is sitting in 2 hours of traffic trying to get through Boston this afternoon after picking up my cooktop since the counter is being installed Friday.....But it is fun  to see the progress, I have to say that all  the sub-contractors are really great guys.  The cabinet maker- ridiculously talented and ridiculously nice.  He loves what he does, he tells you that he loves it and it shows. My drawers are soft close, and I found out today that my cabinet doors are also soft close- didn't know that existed.   The kitchen and bathroom cabinets are even prettier than I had hoped for....The finish carpenter, Mark- bending over backwards to create the fireplace mantle that I am dreaming up in my head (did I mention that he did all the finish carpentry in Tom Clancy's Vineyard house?)  The painters- happy to paint my lime green stripes in the powder room (stay tuned .) Mario- the tile man- actually tiling the foyer while 5 men are coming in and out with molding, cabinets and toilets.)

Well, we are still laughing and we are pretty much on target for the end of the month.....here are some pics.....

Below- the powder room, laundry..

Below, foyer tile....

Below, guest bath...

Below, master bath vanity- doors and drawer fronts not on yet....

can you guess which stain color I picked for the floors? Minwax- from left to right.. Early American, Driftwood, Special Walnut and Provincial.......

I dropped my favorite light off at the house today.... I am in love with this Driftwood Orb by Currey & Co- fab huh?

feels like a house....

Mondays are always better after a trip to the beach- even though the weather was awful today- it was a pretty great day.  The house is really coming together.... lots of progress- these are the closet doors in the master-

Below- photos  of the downstairs den-

This is the hallway that leads to the bedrooms and 1st floor den...

Since there is not a lot of storage in the house, we have a large pantry....

My had to have kitchen "farmers" sink will be right below this window

This is the window where our dining table will be--a great place to watch the sunset...

The view from the family room sliders......

The hardwood has arrived and has been acclimating to the house- being put in tomorrow...4 inch white oak....still deciding on stain colors- really want a deep brown but 2 dogs, sand and kids?  could be a problem.

This is fabulous 5 inch crown molding that will be installed throughout the house- picked it out online- happy to see it in person- yup, love it.

Master ceiling- since the house will basically be white on white- decided on a punch of color here.  The paint is still wet- Doug the painter was nice enough to put a coat on while I waited- ahhhh, instant gratification.

Remember this little beauty-(serena and lilly- seychelles chandelier) goes right here.....

And the best news is that the kitchen cabinets are being brought in on Thursday.....stay tuned for
photos :)

latest obsessions

We are really getting close- its trim week (s)-
of course I'm dying to see the kitchen cabinets but that will have to wait.
Is it bad that a friend introduced me to a fabulous cocktail made with St Germain- and not only did I love it, I can already envision it being the cocktail of choice on the deck?  BTW- we are counting on many cocktails on the deck with those friends...  (with of course, Frank Sinatra's Summer Wind playing in the background...my dad will enjoy that)-
So, until I can post some pictures of the crown molding that I spent hours choosing (much to JTB's dismay)- I will post a few goodies that I am thinking are necessities....
this needs to go in the foyer when you first walk in....setting the mood for our guests :)
and a chandelier that I am dying to put in my master......( by Serena and Lilly) -RG- what do you think??

the blog world

So part of the fun of blogging, is of course, reading other people's blogs.  One of my new favorites is http://fortheloveofahouse.blogspot.com/

Joan and her husband packed up, left  Dallas and moved to New Hampshire.  That is a huge change- and I can say that because Joe and I lived in New Hampshire for 2 years. We brought our daughter Colette home to our house in NH almost 13 yeas ago- time flies.  Joan and Dan took a leap of faith and bought a farmhouse circa 1850 on 4 beautiful acres. Their blog details their renovation journey. I love the  adventure of moving, so their story is so inspiring to me.  Check it out- their farmhouse is beautiful and the decor is to die for- the perfect mix of antiques and fresh design.

this photo is soooo new england isn't it?

A classic white kitchen- can go with beach house or farmhouse....
Enjoy!

I see cabinet doors.....

I received a lovely email today- kitchen progress from the cabinet maker. The cabinets will be sprayed in "Chantilly Lace" by Benjamin Moore- a very clean, crisp white.  Below you will see  cabinet doors and island posts- Dave told me he was inspired by lighthouses when creating the posts. Perfect!   I am dying to see the finished product...since I have a cherry kitchen in my home, the white will be such a great change in the beach house :)

island legs- love!

and on a different note-I was in Crate & Barrel today and fell in love with the  Carly chair - need to find  a spot for  it- navy is so hot right now...trying to get a friend to paint her dining room in a gorgeous deep navy......
